Hello Readers,
Fall isn't only about cozy sweaters and pumpkin spice candles. Which I previously mentioned in Magic In The Air. It's also the perfect season for diving into some great books!
What are you reading?
Here is a list of my 2024 Fall reads:
✦ BONES AMONG THE BRIARS✦
I have been preparing for the release of my first published serial Tooth & Nail. I got some feedback on the story from my developmental editor and there are some changes I need to go over that will make the story stronger. I am hopeful that I will have a chapter ready by my October deadline. Keep an eye out for the release schedule!
For those who are wanting to start thier own serial. Here is some great advice from fellow substackers on the topic, thank you
for starting this thread of discussion.✧ THE SECRETS OF SILVER EDGE✧
SHIRSTEN SHIRTS
I have loved working on The Moonwell Archives. However the biggest challenge was making the design fit the YA genre. I created several thumbnails following the latest trends, and Shirsten gave me lots of helpful reference with ideas. But I couldn’t decide wether to focus on characters or symbols. We ended up with a mix of both concepts.
The other big change with this series is the art style. On my previous covers I used a combination of graphic shapes and limited linework. But with Shirsten’s covers the characters are sketches overlayed with light, shadow, and painted brushstrokes where needed.
Preorders for The Futures Of Marianne Finch are open, more details here
I have some really exciting illustration projects in the works that I cannot wait to share! I hope you all have a great Fall season!
I enjoy reading your newsletters! I think those book covers turned out great. It's fun to see some of the different concepts you tried out along the way!
Thanks so much for the mention! The discussion was *phenomenal*. I'll be putting it together into a series (no irony intended) so do keep your eyes peeled!
Also, as per the comments below, these covers are *gorgeous*. Such a talent!
